A little bit about my history:

Hello, my name is John King I'm a Greenville, South Carolina native (Ware Place, SC). I'm a graduate of Woodmont High School (2010). After High School, I attended College of Charleston where I graduated in 2014 with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre with a concentration in Scenic and Lighting Design and a Minor in Communications. In 2014 I participated in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) where I won first place in Region 4 and went on to win The Barbizon Award for Excellence in Lighting Design at Nationals in Washington, D.C for my lighting design of Arlene Hutton's "As it is in Heaven" judged and awarded by Beverly Emmons and Natasha Katz.

After college I attended The Juilliard School's year long Electrics internship program in New York City (2014-2015). After the internship, I worked as a Freelance Electrician in New York City; working at such Theatres and Organizations as The Juilliard School, Lincoln Center Education, The Public Theater, The Signature Center, The Lighting Syndicate, Abrons Art Center, HERE Arts Center, and The Bushwick Starr. I was also the Master Electrician for The Atlantic Acting School (2016 School Year) and was also a Freelance Technical Director and Lighting Designer for Manhattan Movement and Arts Center (2015-2017). During the summer months I worked at The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College  "Summerscape" as an Electrician at the Spielgeltent (2015), Head Electrician at LUMA Theatre for Dan Hurlin's "Demolishing Everything with Amazing Speed" (Lighting Designer - Tyler Micoleau) 2016; and Head Electrician again at LUMA Theatre for the Wooster Group's "A Pink Chair" (Lighting Designer - Jennifer Tipton) 2017.

In the Fall of 2017 I moved back to Greenville, SC my hometown. I took the position of Technical Director of Mill Town Players (2017 late 2018). I left Mill Town Players and started working at The Peace Center as a Production Technician. When COVID-19 hit the world I used my electrical knowledge and worked as a Solar Electrician for Summit Solar while I was furloughed from my job at The Peace Center. I was brought back to The Peace Center early 2021 as the Head Electrician when COVID-19 restrictions started to lift. Although my time at The Peace Center was rewarding and I learned many things and worked on many different Broadway shows, I didn't have time to Light Design anymore. So I left The Peace Center in January of 2023 and started my current full-time job as Assistant Technical Director / Lighting Designer for Christ Church Episcopal School. I'm also back to freelancing locally as a Lighting Designer in my off-times from work at the school.
